Yorkley Village Garden is a new community garden in the centre of Yorkley. With permission from Forestry England and in collaboration with West Dean Parish Council, Jackie has helped to get this new project up and running with local people.
Yorkley Village Garden aims to promote connection with the land and the food we eat and provide a sustainable food resource and wildlife haven for the community.
The space is for all the community, to participate in the work involved or just to enjoy the place of peace and wildlife.
Jackie says
"This is a really exciting project which will not only improve biodiversity with a wildflower meadow, an orchard, and space for vegetable growing, it will also be a peaceful space for people to enjoy and connect with nature. The garden also responds to the need for greater food resilience in the face of climate change and could help us reduce our plastic waste".
In the coming months, deer and rabbit proof fencing will be installed, there will be a wildflower seed scattering event and we will be planting fruit trees to start establishing an orchard.
Jackie says, "everyone is welcome to come along and get involved in this wonderful community project".
